The enclosed garden is of medieval and renaissance inspir.
At the end of the hornbeam tunnel, on the feodal moat, you have the panoramic view of the “Saosnois” countryside and of the forests of the natural park of “Maine-Normandie”.
As you enter, you start your visit by walking the “Linden Walk” with topiaries on your left and with mixed borders on your right.
In the “Court of the Lions” you find the drawbridge, flanked by two lion sculptures, you can access the enclosed garden that faces the keep.
Then, you find a rose garden made of seven triangular beds with old-fashioned roses, fruit trees, clematis and peonies.
The garden at Ballon was created by Jean Gueroult in 1960
in the design of a medieval garden.
In the 1980’s, Jean Gueroult was helped in the choice of plants by Alain Richert,
a well-known garden designer.
The garden has been awarded the title “Jardin Remarquable”.
